IG Group acquires Freetrade for 160 million pounds to expand UK presence

IG Group has acquired Freetrade, a commission-free investment platform, for £160 million. The acquisition aims to enhance IG's offerings in the UK market.

Freetrade, which was launched in 2018, has attracted 720,000 customers and manages assets worth £2.5 billion as of the end of 2024. The platform provides access to over 6,200 global stocks and ETFs, fractional shares, and various investment accounts. In 2024, Freetrade reported a revenue of £27.5 million, a 32% increase year-over-year. The revenue comes from subscriptions, foreign exchange transaction fees, and interest income.

IG's CEO, Breon Corcoran, highlighted the strategic importance of the acquisition in expanding the company's UK trading and investment capabilities. Freetrade's co-founder, Viktor Nebehaj, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the alignment of visions and the potential for accelerated growth and innovation on their platform.
