potato prices rise in odisha as west bengal restricts supply

Potato prices in Odisha have increased due to supply restrictions imposed by West Bengal, which is the main supplier for the state.

Odisha requires around 4,500 tonnes of potatoes daily to meet its consumption needs.

However, numerous trucks carrying potatoes have been stuck at the Odisha-Bengal border since Wednesday night, as they have not been allowed to cross the inter-state boundary.

As a result, retail prices for potatoes in Odisha have gone up from Rs 30 to Rs 33 per kg to Rs 40 per kg.

Traders warn that if the supply situation does not improve, prices may continue to rise further.

This situation highlights the vulnerability of Odisha's potato supply chain and the potential for increased costs for consumers in the region.
