UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson Shot Dead in Manhattan Attack

Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was fatally shot in Manhattan on December 4, 2024. The shooting occurred in front of the Hilton Hotel at around 6:45 a.m., where the company was hosting its Investor Day.

Thompson suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and leg and was discovered unconscious by responding police officers. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. The motive behind the attack is still unknown, and authorities are actively investigating the circumstances.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and black sneakers with white trim, carrying a gray backpack. Reports indicate that a firearm equipped with a silencer was used in the premeditated attack. Thompson, who had been with UnitedHealth Group since 2004 and became CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2021, played a significant role in various mergers, acquisitions, and government programs.
