Medium-sized centers in Switzerland are becoming increasingly popular among families looking for new homes, according to a recent survey by UBS.
The survey introduces a residential attractiveness indicator (WAI) that evaluates municipalities based on local infrastructure, leisure facilities, and housing costs.
The results show that medium-sized centers like Locarno, Vevey, and the cantonal capitals of Aarau, Chur, Fribourg, Lucerne, Neuchâtel, Sion, Solothurn, and St. Gallen offer the best living conditions for families.
The study also highlights that housing costs are a major factor in choosing medium-sized centers over larger cities. These centers are often more affordable and provide desirable amenities.
Income levels also play a role in housing choices, with families with higher incomes more likely to choose central locations despite the higher costs. On the other hand, families with lower incomes are increasingly looking for more affordable options outside of major cities.
The study acknowledges that while quantitative data is important, qualitative aspects such as the character of a place and proximity to social networks also influence housing decisions.
Overall, medium-sized centers are redefining what it means to find a suitable home in Switzerland, with affordability, quality of life, and essential amenities being key factors for families.
