Leah Wald, the CEO of Sol Strategies Inc., expressed doubt about the approval of a Solana ETF in the United States due to regulatory obstacles. She mentioned that the changing leadership at the SEC could further delay the process and educating regulators about Solana's unique features might take a year or more.
In contrast, she pointed out that Canada has the potential to approve a Solana ETF before the U.S., citing the country's history of leading in ETF innovations. Wald used Canadian issuer 3iQ as an example of this trend, emphasizing that Canada has consistently been at the forefront of crypto-related approvals.
Wald also discussed the potential implications of Paul Atkins replacing Gary Gensler as SEC Chair. She noted that while a change in leadership could create a more crypto-friendly environment, it is important to approach ETF approvals with caution. She cautioned against hastily approving all crypto ETFs and advocated for a thorough understanding of the merits and risks associated with individual assets to ensure regulatory safety.
