credit suisse chief economist leaves for new opportunities after nearly two decades

Claude Maurer, who served as the Chief Economist for Switzerland at Credit Suisse, is preparing to depart from UBS after a long tenure in the banking industry.

Maurer announced his departure on LinkedIn, marking the end of a significant chapter in his career. He expressed gratitude to his colleagues, particularly acknowledging the support he received from UBS economist Daniel Kalt during the integration process.

Prior to his economics career, Maurer was a professional sailor and represented Switzerland at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. He initially worked at BAK Basel Economics before joining Credit Suisse in 2006. In mid-2021, he assumed his current role.

The merger of Credit Suisse and UBS has led to significant changes in the equity and macro research departments. Although Maurer has not revealed his future plans, he remains optimistic about the next phase of his career, comparing it to adjusting sails in response to changing winds.
