EU member states seek to protect carmakers from emissions fines

A group of seven EU member states, which includes Italy, Poland, and Austria, is advocating for measures to protect the automotive industry from emissions fines.

The group plans to address EU competition ministers and stress the importance of finding solutions that would prevent car manufacturers from being penalized for exceeding new emission targets that are scheduled to go into effect in 2025.

The automotive sector is currently facing significant challenges in adapting to stricter emissions regulations while also needing to invest in innovation. The coalition argues that maintaining competitiveness is crucial for the industry during this transitional period.
