credit suisse chief economist departs for new career after two decades

Claude Maurer, who previously held the position of Chief Economist Switzerland at Credit Suisse, has decided to leave UBS after being with the bank for almost twenty years.

Maurer made the announcement of his departure on LinkedIn, expressing gratitude for the valuable experiences and colleagues he encountered during his time at the bank. He specifically mentioned the unique experience of transitioning to UBS and acknowledged the support he received from Sara Carnazzi Weber, a former economist at Credit Suisse, and Daniel Kalt, an economist at UBS, who played a crucial role in facilitating the integration of Credit Suisse staff.

Prior to his career in economics, Maurer was a professional sailor and represented Switzerland at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He initially started his economic career at BAK Basel Economics before joining Credit Suisse in 2006, eventually succeeding Oliver Adler in mid-2021. The merger of Credit Suisse into UBS has resulted in significant changes in equity and macro research at the combined institution. Although Maurer has not disclosed his future plans, he compared his career transition to adjusting sails in response to changing winds, indicating an optimistic outlook for his next chapter.
