NRG Energy Inc. has partnered with Renew Home LLC to distribute around 650,000 AI-enabled thermostats in Texas over the next ten years.

This collaboration utilizes Google Cloud technology and aims to relieve strain on the state's electrical grid, which has experienced significant pressure during periods of high demand.

The deployment of these smart thermostats is expected to decrease electricity demand by nearly 1 gigawatt, which is equivalent to the energy consumption of 200,000 Texas homes.

This initiative accounts for approximately 1% of the record summer demand observed on the Texas grid this year, highlighting the ongoing difficulties in effectively managing energy resources in the region.
