AMC Entertainment's third-quarter revenue declined by 4.1% to $1.35 billion compared to $1.41 billion in the previous year. Attendance at its theaters also dropped by 11.5% with 65,087 patrons, down from 73,576 in the same quarter last year.
The decrease in revenue and attendance is attributed to a lack of blockbuster releases, as well as strikes from actors and writers that halted filming and post-production.
Following the announcement, the company's shares fell over 5% in extended trading. Additionally, AMC recorded a net loss of $20.7 million for the quarter ended September 30, in contrast to net earnings of $12.3 million in the same period last year.
Despite these challenges, CEO Adam Aron remains optimistic about the future, expecting a significant increase in industry-wide box office revenues by year-end and over the next two years.
