MedAxiom partners with Shockwave Medical to advance intravascular lithotripsy technology

MedAxiom has partnered with Shockwave Medical to enhance education on intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) technology for cardiologists and cardiology programs.

Shockwave Medical, now part of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, has been developing IVL since 2009. IVL uses ultrasonic pulses to break up severely calcified plaques in coronary and peripheral arteries, aiding percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

The FDA has approved IVL for treating severely calcified peripheral arterial disease and coronary artery disease. A recent study published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions shows that IVL significantly improves PCI outcomes.
