Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the urgent financial and infrastructural needs of the state.
Siddaramaiah requested immediate clearances for the Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir and Kalasa Bandhuri irrigation projects, as well as a financial support package of Rs 10,000 crore.
He also highlighted a significant reduction in the Short Term Agricultural Credit Limit by NABARD, which has decreased by 58% from Rs 5,600 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 2,340 crore in 2024-25.
This reduction poses a threat to farmers' access to essential loans, and Siddaramaiah urged the Prime Minister to address this issue by directing the Finance Ministry.
Additionally, the Chief Minister sought Rs 5,300 crore for the Upper Bhadra Project, which aims to irrigate drought-prone farmlands in central Karnataka.
This project has been pending since the 2023-24 Union Budget.
Siddaramaiah was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Energy Minister K J George, and Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh, all of whom advocated for critical interventions in agriculture, water resources, and urban infrastructure.
