college dropout turns small investment into multimillion dollar tea business

Darien Craig, a college dropout, has turned a Rs 25,000 investment into an annual revenue of $4 million through his tea business, Y’all Sweet Tea.

After losing his job and having only $7 to his name, Craig used his last paycheck to start the venture in 2021.

The company, co-owned with childhood friend Brandon Echols, now sells directly to consumers and in around 600 grocery stores in the southeastern United States.

Y’all Sweet Tea recently gained attention by appearing on Shark Tank, where the co-founders sought $500,000 for a 5% stake in their fast-growing business.

Investors were impressed by the company’s innovative approach, particularly the successful launch of flavored teas in 2023.

The first flavor, "Georgia Peach," sold 10,000 units in just 35 minutes, demonstrating the brand"s potential for further growth and profitability.
