Cabinet approves 3700 crore investment for hydro power projects in Arunachal Pradesh

The Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on November 25 that the Cabinet has approved an investment of Rs 3,700 crore for two hydro power projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

The main project, the 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project, will be constructed in Shi Yomi District with a budget of Rs 1,750 crore and is expected to be completed in 50 months. This project aims to generate 802 million units of energy and will be executed through a joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

The power generated from these projects will enhance the power supply in Arunachal Pradesh and contribute to the stability of the national grid. The central government will provide funds for infrastructure development, including roads and transmission lines, as well as financial assistance for the state's equity share. The state will also benefit from free power and funds allocated to the Local Area Development Fund (LADF), promoting infrastructure improvements and socio-economic development in the region.
