debt fundraising plummets 40 percent in october as trading activity slows

In October, fundraising through debt issuance experienced a significant decline of 40% compared to the previous month, according to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

The total amount raised through debt instruments fell to ₹76,752 crore, with public issues contributing ₹670 crore and private placements accounting for ₹76,082 crore.

This decrease follows a strong September, where debt issues had raised ₹1,29,017 crore.

Furthermore, the equity cash segment saw a downturn, with gross turnover decreasing by 10.6% at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and 8.1% at the National Stock Exchange (NSE), indicating subdued trading activity in the market.

The report also highlighted a significant drop in fundraising through Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs), which fell by nearly 90% to ₹694 crore in October from ₹6,666 crore in September.

These figures reflect the challenging environment for capital raising in the Indian financial markets.
