SEBI chief requests exemption from PAC appearance citing personal reasons

SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch has requested to be excused from appearing before the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on October 24 due to personal reasons.

The PAC, led by K C Venugopal of the Congress party, is scheduled to review the performance of regulatory bodies established by legislation, including representatives from the finance ministry and SEBI. Buch's appearance has caused controversy among ruling party members, particularly in light of allegations made by US firm Hindenburg, which have made her a central figure in a political dispute.

While the committee's agenda, which includes the performance review of regulatory bodies, has not faced opposition, the decision to summon Buch has raised concerns within the government.
