The Biden-Harris administration has allocated nearly $2 billion to strengthen the U.S. power grid. This funding is part of the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program, which aims to enhance the resilience and capacity of the nation's power grid in the face of climate change and support economic growth through infrastructure improvements.
The GRIP program will deploy innovative transmission and distribution technologies, adding over 7.5 gigawatts of grid capacity. This investment will improve the reliability of the power supply and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources, reducing pollution and enhancing energy efficiency.
The funding will support 38 state-specific projects across various states, addressing local challenges and enhancing grid resilience.
The GRIP program also focuses on economic development, investing over $150 million in community programs, scholarships, and apprenticeship initiatives.
The program emphasizes the adoption of advanced technologies to modernize the power grid, such as battery energy storage systems and advanced overhead conductors. This investment aims to foster a sustainable energy future.
