The Karnataka Cabinet has given approval for the allocation of Rs 2,135 crore towards the purchase of 306 train coaches for the Bengaluru suburban railway project. This investment represents 50 percent of the estimated total cost of Rs 4,300 crore for the rolling stock, with the remaining funds to be provided by the Union government.
The procurement of these metro-like AC coaches over the next five years will be overseen by the Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Enterprises (K-RIDE), a collaboration between the rail ministry and the state government.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs HK Patil has announced that Corridor C2, which connects Byappanahalli to Chikkabanavara, is expected to be operational by December 2026, while Corridor 4, linking Heelalige to Rajanakunte, is scheduled to commence service by December 2027. This initiative aims to improve the suburban rail network in Bengaluru and cater to the growing transportation needs of the city.
