Hyundai Motor India is said to be in a better position than Maruti Suzuki, according to Vivek Goel, Joint MD at Tailwind Financial Services. This is due to Hyundai's higher proportion of SUV sales, which aligns with the current trend of premiumization in the automotive market.
Despite this advantage, Goel points out that the valuations of both companies are quite similar.
In the wider automotive sector, Goel expects slow growth in the passenger vehicle segment, while the two-wheeler market may have better growth prospects. He suggests adopting a defensive investment strategy, focusing on sectors such as pharmaceuticals, IT, consumption, and banking, where valuations remain reasonable in the current weak market conditions.
