The Tata Aircraft Complex at Tata Advanced Systems Limited in Vadodara will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on October 28.
This facility is dedicated to manufacturing the C-295 aircraft, with a total of 56 units involved in the program. Out of these, 16 aircraft will be delivered directly from Airbus in Spain, while the remaining 40 will be produced in India. This marks a significant step in India's defense manufacturing capabilities.
Tata Advanced Systems Ltd will establish the first private sector final assembly line for military aircraft in India, overseeing the entire lifecycle of the C-295, including manufacturing, assembly, testing, qualification, delivery, and maintenance. This initiative is part of the "Make in India" program and is a collaboration between Tata Advanced Systems and Airbus Spain. The project is supported by key defense public sector units such as Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited, along with contributions from private micro, small, and medium enterprises.
This development follows a contract signed on September 24, 2021, between the Ministry of Defence and Airbus Defence and Space S.A. for the acquisition of the C-295MW transport aircraft, highlighting India's commitment to enhancing its defense manufacturing capabilities.
