SEBI Proposes Three Month Lag for Stock Data in Investor Education

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has suggested new guidelines for the use of stock market data in investor education. As per a consultation paper released on December 6, market price data used for educational purposes should be at least three months old.

This is to prevent unregistered investment advisors from misleading investors by using recent market data while claiming to focus solely on education. The consultation paper emphasizes the need for clarity on how regulated entities, such as stock brokers and exchanges, can collaborate with unregistered entities. This is important as many of these advisors claim to provide educational content while discussing stocks and trading strategies.

SEBI is seeking feedback on these proposals to ensure transparency and reliability in investor education.
