UBS's acquisition of Credit Suisse is being examined by authorities to assess the impact of the merger on market power.
The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (Finma), Competition Commission (Comco), and Swiss National Bank (SNB) recently held a meeting to address concerns raised by the public and the economy regarding the merger's effect on competition.
During the meeting, officials discussed market observations and exchanged initial views on Comco's recommendations. No formal agreement was reached.
A report published by Comco in June suggested that UBS could potentially dominate certain markets after the merger. However, Finma did not impose any competition law conditions on the merger, which has raised concerns about the competitive landscape in the Swiss banking sector.
