Rahul Gandhi, a leader from the Congress party, has demanded the arrest of Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group, after Adani was indicted in the United States.
Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of shielding Adani, claiming that the two are closely connected and immune to legal consequences in India.
Adani and his nephew, Sagar, along with other defendants, have been charged by US prosecutors for allegedly participating in a bribery scheme to pay more than $250 million to Indian officials between 2020 and 2024.
The purpose of these bribes was supposedly to secure favorable terms for solar power contracts, which could result in profits exceeding $2 billion.
Gandhi stressed the gravity of the charges and questioned why Adani has not been detained in India despite facing legal action in the US.
