The unemployment rate for Black women in November rose to 6%, a significant increase from 4.9% in October. This increase was the largest among demographic groups, while the overall jobless rate slightly increased to 4.2%. In contrast, the unemployment rate for white women slightly increased to 3.4%.
Black workers as a whole had the highest unemployment rate last month, rising to 6.4% from 5.7%. Black men maintained a jobless rate of 6%, while white men had a rate of 3.5%. The labor market is showing signs of cooling, with marginalized workers not benefiting as they did post-pandemic.
The labor force participation rate decreased to 62.5%, with Black women's participation falling to 62.3%. Black men's participation also decreased to 68.7%. Other groups, including Hispanic men, also experienced rising unemployment, with their rate increasing to 4.4% from 4% in October.
