Chancellor Rachel Reeves has successfully reached spending allocation agreements with all UK cabinet colleagues ahead of next week’s budget.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Reeves mentioned a Treasury tradition involving balloons representing each government department. These balloons are inflated and displayed in the office of Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones before budget discussions, and are popped once agreements are finalized.
Reeves confirmed that there are currently no balloons left in Jones's office, indicating that all budget settlements have been resolved.
