Citi Chair anticipates delay in finalizing Basel III rules until after election

The finalization of the revamped bank-capital rules, known as Basel III, is unlikely to occur before the next president's inauguration, according to Citi Chair John Dugan.

Dugan pointed out a "fundamental stalemate" at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. regarding the latest version of these regulations.

U.S. regulators are currently revising their proposals, with Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr previewing some changes in a recent speech. However, a final proposal has not yet been released, making the timeline for implementation uncertain.
