regulatory scrutiny blurs lines between banks and nbfc operations says l&t finance ceo

Sudipto Roy, the current Managing Director and CEO of L&T Finance, has recently stated that there is no significant difference between working in a bank and a non-banking financial company (NBFC) due to the similar regulatory scrutiny both sectors face.

Roy emphasized that upper-layer NBFCs are subject to the same level of oversight as banks, leading to comparable operational standards. He has a background in banking with institutions like ICICI Bank, Deutsche Bank, and Citibank, and joined L&T Finance over a year ago. His appointment as MD and CEO was formalized on January 23, with full responsibilities assumed in April following the retirement of his predecessor, Dinanath Dubhashi.

Under his leadership, L&T Finance is currently focused on transforming its business model to become a 100 percent retail NBFC.
