California Governor Gavin Newsom has instructed state agencies to explore ways to lower the state's high electricity rates, which are among the highest in the country. The goal of this initiative is to address the increasing affordability crisis faced by residents, especially considering the rising costs of housing and fuel.
In an executive order signed on Wednesday, Newsom emphasized the importance of not compromising the state's commitment to fighting climate change while proposing any reductions. He has assigned multiple agencies responsible for California's energy system to review programs funded by utility bills and consider potential modifications or eliminations. Recommendations from these agencies are expected to be provided by January 1.
