Sanjay Malhotra, a Rajasthan cadre Indian Administrative Service officer from the 1990 batch, will assume the role of Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, succeeding Shaktikanta Das.

His term will commence on December 11, 2024, and will last for three years.

With a career spanning over 33 years in various positions within state and central governments, Malhotra has gained extensive experience in sectors such as power, finance, taxation, information technology, and mines.

Prior to this appointment, he held the position of Secretary to the Department of Financial Services and assumed responsibility for the finance ministry's revenue department on December 1, 2022.
