Shashi Ruia, one of the founders of the Essar Group, passed away at the age of 80 on November 25, 2024.
Ruia started his career in 1965 with the guidance of his father, Nand Kishore Ruia. Alongside his brother Ravi, he established Essar and played a key role in its growth and diversification.
Ruia was actively involved in various national bodies and industry associations, including the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He held important positions such as chairman of the Indo-US Joint Business Council and former president of the Indian National Shipowners Association. He was also a member of the Prime Minister's Indo-US CEO's Forum and the India-Japan Business Council.
His body will be available for prayers at Ruia House from 1 pm to 3 pm on November 26, followed by a funeral procession to the Hindu Worli Crematorium at 4 pm.
