The Roam Air motorcycle recently completed a 6,000-kilometer solar-powered journey from Nairobi, Kenya, to Stellenbosch, South Africa. This expedition, which took place from September 29 to October 16, 2024, showcased the potential of sustainable electric mobility in Africa.

The Roam Air traveled through several countries, including Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, and Botswana, before reaching its final destination. It demonstrated its solar recharging capabilities and the effectiveness of its portable dual battery system. The motorcycle covered an impressive 1,000 kilometers in under 18 hours on the final leg of the trip, proving its reliability and efficiency.
The electric vehicle sector in Kenya, particularly in the motorcycle segment, is experiencing a surge of interest. With over 2.1 million motorcycles currently in operation, there is immense potential for electrification. Transitioning to electric motorcycles could bring efficiencies to the energy system, reduce fossil fuel imports, and generate additional revenue for the country's utility company.
