Nippon Steel pledges no overseas shipments to reassure US steel workers

Nippon Steel Corp. has assured unionized workers at United States Steel Corp. that it will not ship steel from its overseas mills as part of its $14.1 billion acquisition commitment.

This assurance was given by Takahiro Mori, Executive Vice President of Nippon Steel, in a letter to members of the United Steelworkers at two major US Steel operations.

Union leaders have expressed concerns about Nippon Steel"s international operations, fearing that the Japanese company may eventually export steel to the US, which could undermine domestic production.

This commitment aims to address those concerns and gain support from the workforce during the acquisition process.
