The Tokyo Stock Exchange plans to extend its trading hours by 30 minutes, pushing the closing time to 3:30 p.m. starting November 5.
This change is expected to create a more competitive environment for investors, especially as algorithm-driven funds may take advantage of price-sensitive announcements made during the extended trading period.
According to a recent survey conducted by the exchange, more than 40% of the 800 companies scheduled to report earnings after this date will do so during the extended hours. This represents a significant increase compared to the previous season, where less than 20% of total quarterly releases occurred during market hours, indicating a shift in how companies time their announcements in relation to market activity.
