Regula Berger appointed as first female CEO of Basler Kantonalbank

Regula Berger is set to become the first female CEO of Basler Kantonalbank (BKB) on March 1, 2024, succeeding current CEO Basil Heeb.

Heeb has decided to step down at the end of February after leading the bank for six years. Berger, who is currently the Deputy Head of the Bank and Head of Commercial Client Sales, has been chosen as part of a strategic succession plan to ensure a smooth transition and continued success for BKB.

Leadership Transition

The Bank Council, led by Chairman Adrian Bult, has expressed confidence in Berger's abilities, citing her professional experience and leadership skills as key factors in her selection. Heeb's tenure at BKB has focused on strengthening the bank's position and reputation within the Basel region.

After stepping down, Heeb will remain with BKB until March 2025 to facilitate a seamless handover to Berger.

Vision for BKB

Berger's vision for BKB is expected to focus on strengthening the bank's market position and enhancing its service offerings, leveraging her background in commercial client sales. Her leadership style, characterized by collaboration and innovation, is anticipated to resonate well with employees and customers.

Berger's appointment as CEO reflects the industry's trend towards greater diversity in leadership roles and serves as an inspiration for women in finance.
