Mexico launches operation to curb illegal Chinese merchandise influx

Mexico is implementing a nationwide operation to combat the flow of illegal merchandise, primarily from China. The initiative, led by the Economy Ministry, will involve searches across all 32 states, including key entry points such as ports and airports.

The announcement follows a significant raid in Mexico City, where approximately 200 officials targeted a shopping square known for its Chinese goods. During this operation, authorities seized over 260,000 items, valued at an estimated 7.5 million pesos (around $370,000).

Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard emphasized the government's commitment to addressing the issue of illegal imports, signaling a robust approach to protect local markets and ensure compliance with trade regulations.
