premji invest unlikely to fund new large language model companies

T.K. Kurien, the CEO of Premji Invest, has stated that the company is unlikely to invest in companies that are developing large language models (LLMs).

Kurien believes that the market for LLMs is saturated, as existing firms have already extensively trained their models by absorbing most of the data from the internet.

Instead, Kurien believes that the focus should shift towards post-training and inferencing, areas that have yet to see significant advancements at scale.

While Kurien did not disclose the specific investments made by Premji Invest in inferencing, he mentioned that they have made substantial investments in this area.

Kurien predicts that within the next decade, core LLMs will be primarily used in laboratory settings, signifying a major change in the AI landscape.
