Thailand's Prime Minister has stated that there are no plans to increase the value-added tax (VAT) in response to public opposition.

The Finance Minister had proposed raising the VAT from 7% to 15%, but this suggestion faced criticism from both the opposition and a key coalition member.

The Prime Minister confirmed that there will be no immediate tax hike and highlighted that the Finance Ministry is currently reviewing the existing tax structure to address inequality and improve the country's competitiveness.
