Carlos Tavares, the CEO of Stellantis, has resigned with immediate effect due to disagreements with the board of directors.
The board has accepted his resignation, citing recent differences in views. Tavares had been expected to retire in 2026, but the company is now searching for a new CEO and aims to complete the process by the first half of next year.
In the meantime, John Elkann, the chairman, will lead a new executive committee. The importance of alignment between shareholders, the board, and the CEO was emphasized by Henri de Castries, Stellantis' senior independent director, who stated that recent differences led to this decision.
