The government is set to extend the term of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das for a second time, making him the longest-serving RBI chief since the 1960s.
Das has been in this position since December 2018 and has played a crucial role in stabilizing the relationship between the government and the central bank.
His current term is scheduled to conclude on December 10, and an extension would further solidify his tenure, potentially making him the longest-serving governor since Benegal Rama Rau, who held the position for 7.5 years from 1949 to 1957.
No other candidates are being considered for the role, indicating a clear path for Das to continue leading the RBI for at least another year.
