India urged to expedite 6GHz spectrum for 5G and 6G development

India is being urged to speed up the availability of the 6 GHz band spectrum in order to support the growth of 5G and future 6G networks.

Erik Ekudden, the Global CTO of Ericsson, has stressed the importance of integrating satellite technology into telecom operators' coverage strategies, viewing it as a complementary resource rather than competition.

Indian telecom companies have requested that the government allocate the 6 GHz band (6,425-7,125 MHz) for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) and include it in the National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP) to facilitate the expansion of 5G.

Ekudden has emphasized the significance of the 6 GHz band, along with existing sub-6 GHz bands, as it plays a crucial role in improving indoor coverage, uplink performance, and providing the necessary capacity for advanced mobile services.
