Tesla has officially launched its first showroom in the Philippines, located in the upscale Uptown Parade mall in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The showroom, called the Tesla Experience Center, aims to provide a comprehensive solution for electric vehicle (EV) ownership, including sales, service, and delivery.
Tesla's entry into the Philippine market is expected to shift consumer perceptions and preferences towards American-made electric vehicles, which have been dominated by Chinese brands. The initial response to Tesla's launch has been positive, with around 78 sales commitments and over 200 inquiries since the showroom opened.
Tesla offers two models in the Philippines: the Model Y and Model 3, each catering to different market segments. The Model Y starts at P2.369 million ($41,300) for the rear-wheel-drive variant, while the Model 3 starts at P2.109 million ($36,362).
Tesla plans to establish a robust charging infrastructure in the Philippines, including the installation of Superchargers at various locations. The presence of Tesla is expected to invigorate the local EV market and encourage more consumers to consider electric vehicles.
Filipino consumers have historically shown a preference for American car brands, which may benefit Tesla as it establishes itself in the market. Despite the challenges of a nascent EV market and limited charging infrastructure, the government's supportive stance on electric mobility presents a favorable environment for Tesla's growth.
Overall, Tesla's entry into the Philippine market has the potential to redefine the landscape of electric mobility in the region.
