Austria leaves OMV's Gazprom contract decision amid reduced blackmail concerns

Austria's energy officials have stated that the decision to terminate a long-term natural gas contract with Gazprom now lies with OMV AG's executives and shareholders, as the risk of potential blackmail over supplies has decreased.

The contract, which was established in 2018 during a visit from Russian President Vladimir Putin, is scheduled to continue until 2040. The focus on this contract has increased following OMV's recent €230 million arbitration victory against Gazprom PJSC.

In response to OMV's intention to collect the settlement, Gazprom stopped delivering fuel, causing concerns about the stability of the supply.
