The Bundesrat has approved a resolution to optimize the utilization of biogas potential across federal states. The resolution, proposed by Lower Saxony, emphasizes the need for immediate action due to previous unsuccessful biogas tenders.

The resolution calls for a review and adjustment of tender parameters, particularly regarding quantity and flexible surcharges, to ensure the viability of existing biogas plants. It also advocates for the integration of biogas into the government"s power plant strategy, which currently focuses on constructing new gas-fired power plants.

The federal states highlight the importance of utilizing the existing plant fleet and propose enhancing the flexibility of current biogas facilities to quickly achieve the necessary guaranteed output. Additionally, they urge the federal government to create stable and adequate conditions to promote the use of biogenic residual and waste materials, specifically agricultural manure, in biogas production. This is expected to significantly reduce methane emissions and improve the climate balance in renewable energy generation.
