Maharashtra is set to witness a significant increase in its budget, with estimates suggesting that an additional Rs 30,000 to Rs 70,000 crore will be added following the upcoming elections.
Both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are intensifying their efforts to attract voters ahead of the polls scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
The MVA's proposal to increase cash transfers to Rs 3,000 is projected to impose an additional burden of Rs 44,000 crore on the state's finances.
Additionally, initiatives such as free bus rides and unemployment benefits are expected to contribute an extra Rs 22,000 crore to the state's expenditure, highlighting the financial implications of the electoral promises being made.
