Vegetable Thali Prices Surge Amid Rising Food Inflation in November

In November, the cost of thalis increased by 7 percent compared to the same month last year. This rise is due to the higher prices of vegetables, oil, and pulses.

The average cost of a vegetarian thali in November 2022 was Rs 32.7, up from Rs 30.5. The main reason for the price hike is the significant increase in the costs of key ingredients, particularly tomatoes and potatoes, which make up around 26 percent of the thali's total cost. Tomato prices have risen by 35 percent year-on-year, while potato prices have increased by 50 percent. Additionally, the prices of pulses have gone up by 10 percent due to lower opening and pipeline stocks, contributing to the overall inflation in food costs.
