Rio Tinto plc, a major player in the global mining sector, has released its production figures for 2023. The company's focus on iron ore is evident, as it accounted for 62.5% of its output, with a production of 290.2 million tonnes.
Rio Tinto also produced significant quantities of aluminum, alumina, and bauxite, with totals of 54.6 million tonnes of bauxite, 7.5 million tonnes of alumina, and 3.3 million tonnes of aluminum. Additionally, the company produced 562.4 thousand tonnes of copper and various industrial minerals, including 1,111 thousand tonnes of titanium dioxide pigments, 495 thousand tonnes of borates, and 6 million tonnes of salts. Gold production reached 281,500 ounces, while diamond output was reported at 3.3 million carats. Other minerals produced included uranium, silver, zinc, and molybdenum, collectively making up 2.5% of total production.
In terms of sales, Rio Tinto had a strong presence in China, which accounted for 59.6% of its market. The United States followed at 13.9%, Japan at 6.9%, and Europe at 5.3%. The company also reported sales in Canada (2.9%), Australia (1.7%), and other regions (2.4%), indicating a diverse international presence in the mining industry.
