UBS's resolvability has been identified as having obstacles by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) following the integration of Credit Suisse.
The integration requires the harmonization of group structures, processes, and IT platforms. Currently, manual data aggregation is being used to address these challenges until automated processes are fully operational.
According to FINMA's assessment, UBS could be resolved today through a "single point of entry" recapitalization if the preferred restructuring strategy is implemented. However, the existing resolution strategy only allows for the continuation of business activities while restructuring the business model.
In light of the Credit Suisse crisis, FINMA is urging UBS to improve its crisis preparedness and resolution planning for systemically important banks. As a result, the annual assessment of UBS's recovery and emergency plans for 2024 has been put on hold.
