Nepal begins electricity export to Bangladesh through Indian grid for first time

Nepal has successfully exported 40 megawatts of electricity to Bangladesh for the first time, utilizing the Indian transmission grid. This significant milestone in South Asian electricity trade occurred on Friday at approximately 1 PM local time.

The power export was part of a broader agreement signed on October 3, which allows for the continuous export of electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh starting June 15, 2025. The arrangement permits the export of 40 MW during the rainy season from June 15 to November 15 over the next five years.

The virtual inauguration of this power flow was attended by India's Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal, along with officials from Bangladesh and Nepal, highlighting the collaborative efforts among the three nations to enhance energy trade in the region.
