Switzerland has surpassed Germany and Austria in terms of implementing a climate strategy among major listed companies, according to a study by Kirchhoff Consult and BDO.
The study reveals that 83% of large listed companies in Germany and 95% in Austria have adopted similar strategies, while all major listed companies in Switzerland have implemented a climate strategy.
The study also highlights the significant reduction in CO2 emissions achieved by companies in the Swiss Market Index (SMI) between 2021 and 2023, with a 22% reduction. In comparison, Germany achieved a 6% reduction and Austria achieved a 19% reduction.
The study emphasizes the importance of a concrete strategy with specific reduction measures in effectively lowering climate-damaging emissions.
Although there has been a decline in greenwashing practices, it remains a concern in Switzerland, as indicated by the analysis of the carbon footprints of companies from the DAX40, ATX, and SMI indices for the 2023 financial year.
