India is expected to have 270 million 5G subscribers by the end of 2024, which would account for 23% of the country's mobile subscriptions. This represents a significant increase from the previous year's 110-120 million 5G subscribers.
The growth in 5G adoption is primarily driven by enhanced mobile broadband and fixed wireless access (FWA) use cases. As a result, 4G subscriptions are projected to decline sharply, dropping from 640 million in 2024 to 240 million by 2030. Currently, 4G subscriptions make up 54% of total mobile subscriptions in India.
By 2030, India is expected to capture a 20% share of the global FWA market, highlighting its increasing importance in the telecommunications industry. FWA provides high-speed internet through radio signals, eliminating the need for traditional cabling and benefiting specific locations like homes and businesses. This shift towards 5G and FWA will transform connectivity in India, improving internet access and driving digital transformation across various sectors.
